What's happening in AMARI?

PhD Fellowship Applications now open for University of Zimbabwe

The AMARI project invites applications for PhD for the 2017 - 2018 intake. This funding opportunity is to build scientific excellence in mental, neurological and substance (MNS) use disorder research through collaboration with universities in Africa and United Kingdom. In addition to research training, fellows will be trained in research leadership, management and mentorship. There will be a strong focus on developing community-based intervention strategies with the aim of addressing the treatment gap that exists in sub-Saharan Africa.

 Eligibility

Fellowships are open to candidates who wish to undertake doctoral studies in MNS related areas.

Doctoral Fellowship applicants must:

  1.  Have completed a Masters degree in a relevant mental health related discipline such as Medicine,  Psychiatry, Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy , Pharmacology or an equivalentqualificationrecognized by the University of Zimbabwe.
  2. Show strong personal motivation to complete the programme within the stipulated fellowship time.
  3. Agree to register for their studies with University of Zimbabwe
  4. Agree to join UZCHS as teaching assistants or already be junior faculty at UZCHS as part of their training

 Fellowship package

AMARI will provide scholarship for a PhD Fellow and will cover the following:

  1. Tuition fees
  2. Reasonable support for research project and supervision
  3. Monthly stipend
  4. Travel costs for agreed conferences and training workshops

 Application requirements

  1. A fully completed application form downloaded from www.amari-africa.org 
  2. A comprehensive CV including relevant research and work experience
  3. Certified transcripts and copies of post high school qualifications submitted as ONE pdf file
  4. Certified Copy of Passport Biodata Page/ Scanned Copy
  5. Two Academic references  emailed directly to: amariconsortium@gmail.com not later than 15 November, 2017
